Hyderabad, Jul 4 : President Pratibha Devisingh Patil today said the purpose of education was to generate knowledge, skills, values and ethics so that India was counted amongst the front ranking nations of the world.

"Today it is estimated that our economy faces a shortfall of two lakh engineers, four lakh graduates in other fields and 1.5 lakh vocationally trained workers," she said while addressing the students of Indian School of Business (ISB) at Gachibowli here.

She said there was a need for expanding our education infrastructure like setting up enough schools so that every child in the country could receive education.

Ms Patil said by establishing colleges, universities and other higher educational institutions doctors, engineers, teachers and professors would emerge and most importantly they would ensure that quality education were imparted.

The President said the Indian School of Business (ISB) had set an example on how collective effort and the spirit of giving on the part of leading academicians, individuals and corporations led to creating an educational institution to provide quality training to India's future business leaders.
